Donald Trump urges Facebook to reinstate his account for 2024 run: Former US president Donald Trump is urging Facebook, two years after his account was deactivated, to reinstate his account in light of his fresh election campaign as he prepares to run for the White House for a third time.
It should be noted that Facebook banned Trump on the platform immediately after the January 6, 2021 insurrection, when a mob of his supporters stormed the US Capitol in Washington, DC, to stop the certification of Trump’s election defeat to Biden.

As a result, he has been banned from social media platforms for almost two years after he incited violence on the platforms in the past.
It has also been announced that Donald Trump will make a bid to win the presidency of the United States in 2024.

A controversial decision is expected to be made by Meta this month regarding the future of Donald Trump’s accounts, it had previously been reported.
After the riots that took place on January 6, 2021 in front of the US Capitol, Donald Trump was no longer able to access Facebook and Instagram.
In the days leading up to suspending his accounts, he posted a video on the platform that included false claims of widespread voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election. He had his posts removed before his accounts were suspended.
On November 19, 2022, Elon Musk, the new owner of Twitter, reinstated Trump’s account after he had been previously banned from the platform.

The former president has not tweeted yet, instead remaining loyal to his Truth Social platform as an alternative.
According to NBC News, a Trump adviser said that if Meta refuses to reinstate him, the Trump administration will use House Republicans to press for his reinstatement.
“It’s fine if Facebook wants to start a fight over this, but we’re moving to the House for leverage, and we don’t want Trump to be off Facebook for political reasons”, he told NBC News.
Earlier this week, four Democratic lawmakers wrote to Clegg at Meta, asking to prolong Trump’s suspension, including Rep. Adam Schiff, Sheldon Whitehouse, André Carson, and Kathy Castor.
There had been weeks during which the former reality TV star had falsely claimed that the presidential elections had been rigged against him, and this led to his impeachment for inciting rioting.
The lawyer for Trump, Scott Gast, wrote in a letter he sent to the parent company of Facebook, Meta, that the ban had “affected the public discourse in a profoundly negative manner and distorted public discourse.”
Trumps prompt reinstatement to the platform
There was a request for a meeting to discuss Trump’s “prompt reinstatement to the platform,” where he had a following of 34 million, and he argued that the fact that he was the leading contender for the Republican nomination in 2024 justified ending the ban.
” As well as that, we believe that a continued ban could be viewed as a deliberate effort by a private company to silence Mr. Trump’s political voice,” Gast wrote in an email to the New York Times.
A congressional committee recommended in December that Trump be prosecuted for his involvement in the assault on the Capitol building.
In the aftermath of the riot, the Republican’s Twitter account with 88 million followers was also shut down, so he has been forced to communicate through his own platform, Truth Social, where he has less than five million followers.
